How this calculator works

  1. 1Hours are split into three bands using your daily thresholds.
  2. 2The first band pays base rate, the second 1.5×, the third 2×.
  3. 3The three amounts are added for the day's total.

Formula

Double-time pay = Hours past the double-time threshold × Hourly rate × 2

Worked example

  • A 14-hour day at $26 per hour, overtime after 8, double time after 12.
  • 8 hours regular ($208), 4 hours at $39 ($156), 2 hours at $52 ($104).
  • Total for the day: $468.

What we assume

  • Daily overtime and double-time rules are state and contract specific; California is the best-known example.
  • Federal law alone does not require double time.
